Oregano
Synonym: wild marjoram
Oregano (Origanum vulgare) is a herb in the family Lamiaceae originated in Southern Europe. It is also known as wild marjoram, because its flavor is similar to that of the marjoram.
Oregano is one of the main spices of Italian cuisine. Thus, pizza, tomato dishes, mussels, salads, soups and vegetables were flavored with oregano. It is also part of many spice blends for different sausages.
