Cardamom

Bot.: Elettaria cardamomum

Cardamom is a spice from the ginger family (Zingiberaceae) originated in India. It has a burning spicy taste and - besides cinnamon and cloves - is used in the Christmas baking. (e.g. for gingerbread, spiced cookies, Christmas stollen). Furthermore, cardamom is found in popular spice blends for various meats and sausages.
